ugh, it's pesto season!

i am in a dilemma: i love pesto, and i am currently wealthy with basil. Any ideas on what i might be able to substitue for nuts? I'll use SF cheddar and olive oil (my exception), but what on earth will work for that delicious nutty flava?

i would say if we can get ourselves down to butterworks farm where the word on the street is you can buy sunflower seeds and sunflower oil direct, then there is your nutty flava! otherwise, i would say to make it something not like pesto and roll with it. like roast up a head or two of garlic or puree it all with white beans, which incidentally have a nice smokey flavor to me.
here's to experimenting in the kitchen!

mandy made a pesto tonight with just basil, olive oil and garlic and we both noted the lack of cheesiness or nuttiness. just aint the same.
